If you're just beginning the drafting stages of a home remodel, building or are merely looking to redesign one room, here are some things to consider before visiting one of our showrooms.

Showers+

Are you on city water or well water?

If you're replacing your shower trim and NOT the mixing device or rough in.

Who is the manufacturer of the mixing device or rough in?

Do you have separate hot and cold handles or one control for hot and cold?

What are the desired essentials for showering? Would you like a shower head, tub spout, hand shower, body sprays, etc.

What control devices will be required to operate the output devices?

Would you like to use the shower head and the hand shower be on at the same time?

Can the hot water heater and drain capacity support a large system? What size is your water heater and how many drains do you have in your shower?

Bathroom Faucets+

Replacing your lavatory faucet? How many holes are in your counter top? 1? 2? Or 3? (typically a 4" center to center or a 8" center to center)

What color are your tile, counter tops and wall?

Bathtubs+

Replacing a tub? What is the width and depth of the existing tub?

What color is your tub? White, bone, biscuit?

Facing the tub, is your drain on the right or left side?

Toilets+

Replacing a toilet? What is the rough in measurement?

Measure from the center of your toilet boltholes to your finished wall.

Measure the width, height (standard 14", 15" or ADA comfort height 16", 17") and the distance from the back of your toilet tank to the front of the toilet bowl.

Need parts? What is the make and model of your existing toilet?

Do you have a round or elongated toilet seat?

Replacing the flush valve? Do you have a front or side mount flush valve?

 

Door Hardware, General Hardware & Cabinet Knobs

Doors+

The Function of your door: passage (closet, hall), privacy (bath, bedroom), entrance, double door.

What thickness is your door?

What is the backset of your door? This is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of each hole. Usually 2-3/8" or 2-3/4"

The diameter of the holes? Typically 2-1/8" or 1-5/8"

What hand is your door? Left hand or right hand? From the exterior (walking into the room regardless of an interior door or exterior door) which side are the hinges on?

What type of door do you have? Flush door, panel door, wood, metal clad, metal.

Is your door new, old, painted or stained?

If old, what kind of hardware is on the door? Cylindrical, mortise, rim.

Do you know the brand of your door?

Door Hardware+

Do you know the brand of the existing lock or hardware?

If replacing existing hardware, the center to center measurements? The vertical measurement between your latch and deadbolt on the edge of your door. Usually there are two holes. If it's a handleset, the measurement between the deadbolt and thumb latch (usually 5-1/2" on center) and the measurement between the thumb latch and the through bolt (usually 8" to 11-1/4")

What hardware accessories might you need? Knocker, letter box plate (width and height of opening in door), bell button, hinges (size and radius) house numbers, door stops, kick plate (width and height), name plate.

Cabinet Hardware+

Selecting cabinet hardware you'll need the center to center on existing hardware. (usually 3", 3.5" or 4")

Are there back plates on your existing knobs or pulls?

Quantity of knobs and pulls?

Appliance pulls sizes? Refrigerator, dishwasher, icemaker, etc. Common sizes are 8", 12" or 18"

What colors are your cabinets, appliances, wall paint and counter top?
